“The Nativity” with “Breath of Heaven”
December 10th, 2006The first time I ever about this was when my sister-in-law, Sandy, showed this to the family two or three years ago. Amy Grant wrote and sings a song called “Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song)” talking about the feelings that Mary had while carrying the Savior of the World. It turns out that a short film put out by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called “The Nativity,” and “Breath of Heaven” are almost exactly the same length. Many of the scene changes match the changes in the music and many of the images match the lyrics. When I first saw this it was difficult to get going because it was a VHS tape with the video and a seperate CD player that had to be started together at just the right moment for the effect to be really noticeable. I took the video from the DVD and combined it with the audio from the CD, and this is the result. The Amy Grant music has a much greater impact than the original audio in my opinion. Enjoy!

UPDATE: A few Evangelical Christians have decided that this video doesn’t make any sense since Mormons aren’t Christians.”

Awesome! You had showed me this when there were some glitches, but now it is great! You did a great job getting it all together! How do people discover these things?

You can download a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 version I uploaded here:
http://www.archive.org/details/The.Nativity.with.Breath.of.Heaven
On the left there is a link for an MPEG-2 version that’s rather large (300MB!) because DVD format is not very efficient. If you have software like Nero that will burn in Video DVD mode, then you can use this file directly. There is probably someone somewhere that can help you do this.
Best of luck!

Thanks again, Blessings to you and yours.

Do you have this video with the music/accompaniment but without Amy Grant singing in the background? I’m not sure if that is available, but if you know, would you let me know?! Thank you, I appreciate it!

@ Traci:
The synchronization with the words was the important part in making this. The only reason I can think of for wanting the music without the words is if you were planning on playing the video and singing with it yourself. I don’t have an accompaniment only version of the song, so I couldn’t make one if I tried. If I had the music, I could combine them like I did in this video though.

I have the same question as Traci. Our church is incorporating “Breath of Heaven” into a cantata and after seeing your movie clip, I won’t be satisfied until we can show it with the solo. Were you able to come up with a version minus Amy Grant’s voice? Or if I could provide the background music, would you still be able to combine that with the movie? What would you charge to do that? Thanks so much.

@Ellen:
I do not do this for money. I would be happy to try and fulfill your request if I could get the music without the vocal track. I am curious, though… if you are doing a cantata, then why do you need the music at all? Just use your musicians and practice getting the tempo right and do it all live with no sound from the video whatsoever.

I tried downloading the http://www.archive.org/details/The.Nativity.with.Breath.of.Heaven but when I clicked on that link, it said the link could not be accessed due to issues with its content. Is there any way you can email me a copy of this wonderful piece?

Shawn, I’m sure you’ve figured out that this video is exactly what a lot of us have been looking for! It’s gorgeous! Can you please tell me if/how I can get a downloadable version. We’d like to use it for our R.S. lesson next week to kick off the Christmas season. Thanks!

I love Amy’s rendition of this song…and love the song itself.
Just one note here, Mormons ARE Christian..thus the name of our Church is NOT “New Life” or “Calvary Chapel”, or “Second Baptist”…our faith is in our name “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints”. I was not born into the LDS faith, but was raised a Baptist, by a father who was also a Reverend. Our whole family joined the LDS Church in 1978.

Wonderful!! Yes, we are christians and we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Christ is an important part of our lives every day and we try very hard to follow his example.
