Air Conditioner Finally Functional
July 13th, 2006After having three different people come and look at the AC, the electrician determined that the problem lay in a faulty light switch. Apparently all the power to the AC is routed through this switch that’s on the wall behind the panel where the compressor is. The electrician connected the wires directly to one another, bypassing the switch, so we could have use of the air conditioner until the maintenance man can get a new switch installed.
So it only took five days to get the problem fixed. But it wasn’t too hot in those days. I’m just glad that this happened now instead of in the middle of August. That would have been much hotter, I think.
Now it will be nice to get a good night’s rest and not wake up every twenty minutes covered in sweat.

Do you guys normally have your place at 72 degrees? If so is your bill like $100 a month?

I generally keep it at 73°F. Sometimes I get it for 75°F though depening on how we feel. Keeping it at 73°F during the day and 71°F overnight plus 4-5 computers running 24/7 our bill has never exceeded $25 for a month and is usually $17-20/month. I think it has a lot to do with all brand new stuff that is super-low energy. We used to only have 2 computers at our old place and we’d use the AC for maybe 7 days out of the month and our energy bill was between $40 and $50 during those months! So, there you have it.
